Family Therapy

Using the dynamic Family Systems model, Counselors are able to address the needs of the whole family, without losing sight of individual members. As a holistic approach, Family Systems uses strategies that allow individual thinking to shift, and positive change to take place.

Careful attention is paid to the family’s functionality, analyzing: costs/benefits, the dynamics of specific relationships, alliances, subgroups, boundaries, negotiations, support, patterns of authority, family rules, and ‘group think’. Using tools such as Family Genograms, and individual interviews, counselors are able to help families resolve crises, improve communication, and increase emotional intelligence. The results allow members to enjoy honest, open communication, and look forward to time spent together.

What Can I Expect? Therapists identify and build on individual strengths, so family members can work on problems together, as a team. Therapists teach productive conflict resolution techniques, to enact change in a gentle, non-threatening way. All members make a commitment to take responsibility for family problems, and to incrementally change unproductive behavior. The therapist helps the family set goals, and explores the variables, and the length of time expected to achieve them. Not all family members need to attend each session.
