Dusty McCoy is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the Executive Director of West Texas Counseling & Guidance (WTCG). He holds Master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology and Interdisciplinary Studies in Public Administration, Government, and Management.
Since joining WTCG in 2007, Dusty has been dedicated to improving access to high-quality mental health services across West Texas. In his role as Executive Director, he focuses on organizational leadership, expanding community programs, and fostering partnerships to enhance mental health care for individuals and families. His efforts have solidified WTCG as a vital resource for the region.
Dusty’s career is marked by a deep commitment to mental health care and advocacy. He previously specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and training future counselors as an LPC Supervisor. He became a Certified Expert Trainer in CBT through the Texas Department of State Health Services and a certified cognitive therapist through the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dusty also served as a research therapist for the study “Bridging Science and Service” and attended the renowned Beck Institute, focusing on personality disorders and complex mental health challenges.
Dusty’s impact extends beyond his professional roles, earning him significant recognition for his contributions to mental health and community well-being. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Pillars of the Community Award from the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo, the Heroes in the Fight Award from NAMI/MHA Texas, and the Roger J. Tierney Service Award from the American Association of Suicidology.
Although Dusty no longer sees clients directly, his leadership and advocacy continue to drive WTCG’s mission to provide compassionate, accessible, and effective mental health care. Dusty’s office is located on the 6th floor of the historic Cactus Hotel in San Angelo, Texas.
